Finally I get to go to high school! Oh NO, what will the seniors do to me? What if I get lost going to my class and get to class late? What if I can’t get my locker open? Who will I ask to homecoming?
The stress, nervousness and fear of knowing that I’m finally out of the junior high and now going to high school is on many a sophomores mind. These were the concerns of out-going 9th graders as they celebrated their junior high career and are moving on up to high school. Here are some helpful tips for high school students:
“I think its important is that junior high students should grasp some sort of understanding of what they want to be/do in the future. This way, they can choose classes that may benefit them past high school. If those classes are not interesting to them, then they will still have a lot of time to choose different classes. The earlier the better!”
Tony, junior
“Don't be afraid to introduce yourself to your classmates so that you get to know more people.” Sabrina, senior
“Challenge yourself, but know your limits. It's good to take honors/AP classes, but don't overdo it. Ask questions. Teachers are there to help you if you don't understand something!”
Victoria, senior
“Try lots of new activities and take the initiative for things you are passionate about because you never know what they may lead to.”
Michelle, senior
“Do something different that intrigues you! Participating in new activities allows you to meet new people that maybe you normally wouldn't hang around with. Branch out a little bit--you will be happy you did!”
Jesse, junior
“Time management is always a big one.”
Deesha, junior
Enjoy the summer but take time to think about what you are looking forward to in high school. Take some time to visit the school so you are familiar with it and then the first week connect with old friends but also meet new ones.
