Braiding the Grass on the Sammamish Trail

Sarah Kavage, a Seattle artist and urban planner, will create a site-specific art installation along the Sammamish River Trail by braiding the tall grass nearby.  She will work on the project beginning mid-August for about two weeks.

About an installation in Arlington, Washington, Sarah said, "The grass was left in the soil like a French braid on the earth, with the grass as the hair. I was thinking about the end of summer and the harvest, 'women's work' and old European traditions of living sculpture. The braid traced an undulating, looping path through the field, like a snake or a spinal column."
