From the Mayor

Summer is for Connecting Community
This is the first issue of our newest communication tool, www.efocusonredmond.com. This electronic magazine accompanies our new smaller format Focus on Redmond. Every quarter you will receive the City’s news highlights in your mailbox, while Efocus gives you more stories and detail including informational videos augmenting the stories. The feature article for the first Efocus is how to have fun at home this year.

Redmond is full of great ways to have summer fun without traveling too far from home. With the days becoming longer, warmer and dryer, this is the time to connect with your neighborhood and the greater community. Come show your civic pride and attend Derby Days on Saturday, July 11. This year our famous Kids and Grand parades are combined into one fully integrated Derby Days Parade. Children of all ages can decorate their bicycles and participate in the parade alongside marching bands and drill teams. The day will end once again with a fabulous fireworks show on the lawn at City Hall.

Other means of connecting community include taking a class at the Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center, going on a field trip with

the Senior Center or participating in National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4. National Night Out involves neighbors organizing small gatherings, usually with food, to strengthen the bonds of the neighborhood. For more information, contact Jim Bove at 425-556-2545 or jbove@redmond.gov.

We are also working on connecting our community in the literal sense with some long needed transportation improvements. The extension of Bear Creek Parkway is nearing completion and is the first step in improving mobility downtown. Another important transportation project, the NE 36th Street Bridge, broke ground in May and will improve mobility in the Overlake area.

Enjoy our all-too-short summer season and feel free to contact me with your questions or concerns at 425-556-2101 or mayor@redmond.gov.

Sincerely,
John Marchione, Mayor
